...when in the fast embrace their limbs were knit,
they two were two no more, nor man, nor woman -
one body then that neither seemed and both."
Ovid, Methamorphoses

"Every memory makes me who I am right now, in this moment.
Good or bad, all experiences shape you"

This is Freda aka Fred and Nicholas aka Viv story.

Freda is used to speak her mind, to let her snarky sense of humor to hide the shy and insecure woman she is. She is not used to have a handsome man to focus his attention on her...and well, that man is Nicholas, who just moved next door to Freda.
From the start he was a burst of color in Freda's world, besides being devilishly handsome, he is funny, intense and a flirt...and quite surprising when she goes to his show and discover the type of performer he is. At night the beautiful Nicholas transforms in the diva Vivica Blue.
And then one proposition arises for Freda to become Viv's assistant, where she emerge in the world of drag and most of all in all the complexity and the beautiful mess that is Nicholas.

"We all paint on a face to show the world.

For some of us that's quite literal"

This story is an unconventional, controversial and BEAUTIFUL love story.
It actually made me look past the box, past the stereotypes and focus in this amazing characters and their story.
I related so much with Freda (although I'm not that snarky or funny) and i loved how nonjudgmental she is.
And Nicholas? My dark and handsome man, my beautiful mess. This man can talk dirty and be a shameless flirt and then be all intense and passionate.

Painted faces is a story of discovery...of self worth, purpose, joy and love. And of course, that love do came in all shape and forms.
Even if the man look better in a dress than you :D
