Love, our love, had been a shooting star, burning in the darkness, unseen,
until it got too close, too bright and too quick to capture.
To the wild and adventurous Vera, the plan to spend a month in Spain teaching conversational english is clearly the adventure of a lifetime. It sounded easy and fun but she never expected was to fall in love and give her heart to someone. To someone unavailable, off limits.
This is Vera and Mateo story. And it's one hell of a story.
From the first moment they met, it's undeniable the fascination they have for each other... the way they started talking and sharing their thoughts was just beautiful. We could see their relationship growing,in every single day... the confidence in each other, the attraction.
They were together in a secluded resort, with almost no contact from the outside, being with the same people 24/7, it was inevitable how close people get to each other.
I'd told myself that our love never had been free,
but that was a lie.
I had loved him freely, beyond restraint or constriction
Vera is just such a strong heroine but at the same time, like most of Karina's heroine's is so vulnerable.
She doesn't see herself worthy of love, she doesn't get why someone would love her, exactly how she is.
And when she meets Mateo, she tries so hard to deny her instincts, to deny her love, because more than anyone else, she doesn't want to be the villain.
And reading in her POV so many times it was painful...to feel her love and her heartbreak, and the way she wanted to relive her memories.
How could she let go of the best thing that ever happened to her?
Damn, he is one smooth and too good to be true hero. Oh yes, I fell over heels with him!
Pst Pst...Te quiero Mateo!
Anyway,I loved how he still was so characteristically latin but at the same time also vulnerable and not afraid to show his emotions. Just intense and romantic, and oh so hot!
I get how so many people could think that Mateo was having an early mid life crisis but for me he just tried to grab his chance at happiness. He clearly saw how was his life and the life he wanted to be, it's never late to take a leap of faith
Still their story was far from perfect. I usually can't stand when there is cheating in a story but this was one of those cases that made me see past it. Yes, the story is that good!
I felt their connection from the very beginning, and every stolen moment, every conversation was a discovery in itself.
That doesn't mean that I wasn't angry/upset with many of their actions but in the same way they become even more real, if that makes sense. People screw up, make mistakes, even when they have the best intentions. Is how people own up to their own mistakes that make the difference.
By now you see that I LOVED this book...i love books that makes me feel every single thing and that make me care for this characters like they were flesh and bone.
It's such a raw, excruciatingly real love story, that will grab you from page one.
I don't think it's possible to not relate to them and look beyond the circumstances, to look beyond the "forbidden".
We all deserve a shot at happiness, don't we?
What best than shot for the stars?
I think we all wish to obtain that, to have a love so bright that creates it's own universe.
When you get the chance go get a copy, you won't regret it!
Definitely a must read and an immediately favorite!
